The future of the Internet in Canada

On February 27th 2012 Radiant participated in the second annual Canadian Internet Forum hosted by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA).

We now have a new appreciation for the .CA domain. Let's be honest, most Canadian businesses only go for .ca when registering their domain if the .com is already taken. However, it is important for Canada on the global stage for businesses to own and use the .ca domain.

The keynote speaker, Dragon's Den's Robert Herjavec spoke rather provocatively about government being "the saviour of the internet". While this was surely music to the ears of those in parliament, we at Radiant think there is a long way to go. No doubt there needs to be governance on the internet but who does it and how they enforce it is an extremely complicated issues with implications for privacy, legislation, information sharing and jurisdiction.

The panel discussions gave us a lot to think about. We hope that next year's forum focuses more on the role of businesses in digital media.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: I want to develop an interactive online application. Where do I start?

A: First we determine your requirements. What would you like to build? What is the content? How is it delivered? Essentially, you provide the subject matter expertise and we take care of the rest using our simple three step Radiant process to:
1) Design 2) Develop and 3) Deliver your new application.
Depending on the requirements, we design custom avatars and characters, utilise fun and engaging game elements and integrate everything into a user friendly interface.
For example, our most recent project was to develop an interactive learning application for HR professionals on Canadian Immigration policies. We are not experts in immigration classes but our client is. We worked with them to develop the content and curriculum. We created the interactive application using custom graphics, animations and interactive elements.

Q: Do I need to have my own content?

A: Yes. We create an application based on your current content, whatever format it's in and even if it was originally designed for a physical classroom. Don't worry, we work with you on the content design for the application. We also create original visuals, graphics and artwork to complement the material you provide.

Q: How much does an application cost?

A: There are a number of factors required in order to determine the budget for your application. These include the amount and type of your content, the kinds of interactivity, animations and custom graphics, learning activities, technology used and LMS requirements.

Q: What is an LMS? Do I need one?

A: LMS denotes Learning Management System. It is a software application which administers, documents and tracks online training courses, students and content. We can provide you with a customised LMS if required.

Q: Can the online learning courses you design be used in an LMS?

A: Yes. Our courses are SCORM compliant, which means they can be integrated into an LMS system.
